Woodgate Beach – QLD

If Jeep and Jayco were amphibian vehicles we could have zipped across the river’s entrance from Burrum Heads to Walkers Point near Woodgate Beach in no time. Instead we took the round journey of approximately 88 kilometres to Woodgate Beach.

This is yet another coastal town that seems to be extremely popular. In the past we never booked a caravan park more than a day or so in advance, but with this trip we have found it necessary as everywhere has been very very busy.

We are staying at the NRMA Woodgate Beach Holiday Park which is situated just across the road from the beach. Currently it is fully booked and apparently will remain like this for a few days.  It’s huge and has over 500 sites. Oh and if your wondering YES, its pet friendly 🐾😉.

As we drove to our site, which was way down the back we were very impressed. The front sites that we drove past had lovely green grass with slabs and shady trees 🌳🌴all around.

Unfortunately our grassed site had turned to sand because of the recent dry spell.🙁 Being so busy it has been difficult to keep up with watering of the grassed sites. Oh well you win some you lose some. It will just encourage us to invest in another small ground mat. Actually we used to travel with one way back when we first started, but left it at home as we never used it. Luckily the receptionist felt sorry for us and gave us the Boss’s ground matt to borrow for our stay. Wow that made life much easier and pleasant for when you sit outside in the morning etc. Thank you.🙏

The park features are:

☕️Cafe/Restaurant at the front of the caravan park

⛽️ Petrol bowsers again at the front of the caravan park and only fuel available in town.

🛒Small convenience store at the front of the caravan park for those essential items.

📺TV/Telstra reception great

🔌Power and water slab/grass sites (Stay 7 pay 6 at present $39 per night)

🚽Dump points

🚿Clean amenity blocks and laundries

🏡Cabins

🥩Many BBQ areas and camp kitchen

🐾Pet friendly

Across the road from the park you can walk many 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️ kilometres along the golden sandy beach 🏖 which stretches as far as the eye can see. Walking along you’ll see tables and chairs scattered along the dunes where locals and holiday makers sit and enjoy the view. But if you prefer there’s a great shaded path that stretches all the way along the Esplanade.

The beach is calm and very inviting to enjoy a swim 🏊‍♀️or two. Our daily walks can either take us to the public boat ramp and back or we can head off in the opposite direction towards Burrum Point. Across the road from the public boat ramp 🛥 is where you will find the pub 🍻 and another smaller caravan park.

If you intend on staying for a longer period of time it may be wise to make sure you stock up as there are not many stores in town.  Besides the small convenience store in the caravan park there is also another convenience store with take-away food a little further down the road. There’s also a Friendly Grocer, hardware store, pharmacy and small boutique and that’s it.

This caravan park may not have a playground, water park or jumping pillow for the kids to enjoy, BUT there are so many families here and they are all making their own fun. During the daytime you will find everyone out and enjoying the beach. It’s great to see.😄
