WAGGA WAGGA – NSW

Wagga Wagga is a major regional city in the Riverina area of New South Wales. Wagga Wagga is an Aboriginal word meaning “many crows” in reference to the birds that frequent the area. There is actually a beach, yes Wagga Beach which sits on the Murrumbidgee River.

We stopped in at the Wagga Wagga Visitor Information Centre to pick up maps and some knowledge about the area. Outside is an exhibition of shipping containers which gives you a whole new perspective of how they revolutionized the way we live. The exhibition is housed in six 20 foot shipping containers and it’s ‘FREE’. It’s very interesting and will remain open until early May, 2019.

🛍As far as shopping goes you will find everything you need in the city of Wagga Wagga, from the usual large retail supermarkets to a multitude of cafes and restaurants.

Best of all for caravanners is a free camping area at Wilks Park. You can find it on WikiCamps app.

Grassy sites – take your pick. But be careful not to park under the enormous red gums. From what we could see many had lost limbs which is typical of these trees.

🚻Flushable toilets – not too bad considering the amount of people using them.

🤔72 hour stay – but it’s obvious that some have stayed longer or otherwise the grass grows very quickly around the caravan 😉

🚶‍♀️It’s a lengthy but easy walk into town if you want to stretch your legs.

No power or water – after all it is ‘free camping’.

🏕The sign does say fully self-contained RV’s and no tents. However, there were a few tents near the toilets which looked quite permanent.

Well that’s enough for now.
