We found the perfect place to base yourself to explore the Adelaide Hills and the surrounding Murray River lands. Or maybe you are travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide or further West and need a stopover. Even more if you’re a bit of a rev head (motor sports enthusiast) …….well you’re going to love this caravan park.
Big 4 The Bend is situated in Tailem Bend along Dukes Highway and right across from The Bend Motorsport Park. The caravan park has only been open for around two months and has ultra-modern laundries, amenities and a fantastic camp kitchen that would tick the seal of approval for any budding chef. Not to mention the awesome flat sites, several of which can easily handle very large rigs.
👉👍We are excited to say that they have a special deal at the moment so read on to the end.👌👈

We loved that we could just drive in and park without having to go back and forth and make sure we were level. It makes parking so much easier. The park is a little quiet at the moment so we almost had it to ourselves, except for a few local Kangaroos with their joeys who come visiting each evening.
It seems a lot of consideration has gone into planning this park for travellers. We loved their use of solar power lighting throughout the park and the movement sensors for inside the amenity buildings.
When you first drive to the park from Dukes Highway you pass a large OTR (On the Run) complex. This is the first time we have come across one of these in SA. Inside the OTR Motorsport Park you will find these brands on offer. BP Fuel, Hungry Jack’s, Wokinabox, Krispy Kreme, a 24 hour supermarket and more. Not bad if you’re in need of something.
The Bend Motorsport Park is preparing for a busy year of events that should cater for everyone. From the International Moto Fest in April and other motor racing championships to the individuals among us that want to do some Hot Laps in a V8 Mustang (check the website or their Facebook page for more info).
So for all you rev heads and for those who are not, you can walk or drive to The Bend Motorsport Park from the caravan park. It’s free to enter the main building and you can take your time checking out all the cars and motorbikes on display in the large modern foyer. There’s also a great little café and bar downstairs. I think because it wasn’t too busy we were asked if we wanted to go up to the viewing decks……..it was great but all we saw were the Porsche’s parked along ‘Pit Straight’ waiting to take on the track. Apparently Porsche had booked the track for a few days doing testing on the new model. You think they could have asked us if we wanted to go for a spin.
Upstairs overlooking the tracks and pit straight is the Fuel Restaurant. We decided to have lunch and we are so glad we did. We had the most delicious burgers with chips and a cold beer. The best we have had this trip. Thanks to Ali the Manageress at the caravan park for this suggestion and also other things to do in the area.
The next day we drove to Tailem Bend and checked out the Visitor Information Centre and the Railway Museum which is said to have a resident ghost. Town also has a Baker, pub, IGA, newsagent, Post office, Butcher, Hair Dresser, Hardware Store and a few boutiques.
Unfortunately we needed a specific item so after searching every store in Tailem Bend we made the journey to Murray Bridge which is a much larger town than we thought. We found what we needed and started looking around town and this is when I saw Aldi woohoo. Oh and Graeme found Bunnings so we were both happy. On the way back to the caravan park we drove back along the other side of the Murray River to the town of Jervois and caught the vehicle ferry back across the Murray River to Tailem Bend. The Ferry can take vehicles up to 20m in length, including caravans.
All in all we are so happy that we made time to check out this area. Thanks so much Ali for encouraging us to come and stay. You are doing a wonderful job and maintaining the park.
