Mount Gambier – WOW! Who knew that Mount Gambier has so much to offer? They call this the Limestone Coast and for us Mount Gambier is the start of our adventure through this region in South Australia. It has so much natural beauty and stunning beaches not to mention many wineries and it appears plenty of great places to stop for a meal.
Robe – We spent a couple of days exploring Robe, South Australia. Robe is a great beachside town, along the Limestone Coast. From what we saw we can only imagine how busy the seaside town would be in Summer School Holiday time.
Lake Albert – Meningie –We spent a relaxing couple of nights at Lake Albert Caravan Park, Meningie, SA. The grass sites are well maintained and many people park on the waterfront of the Lake.
Mount Barker – Mount Barker is just a short drive 10-15 minute drive to the beautiful village of Hahndorf which is well worth a visit which I have mentioned in a previous post.
Moonta – The town of Moonta is also renowned for its Cornish Pasties and so we stopped in at the Cornish Kitchen to sample a couple. The town also has been named “Little Cornwall” because back when there was a copper mining boom in the late 19th century, the South Australian government advertised for experienced miners.
Port Pirie – Port Pirie has some wonderful history and even more intriguing are some of the facades of the buildings. Especially the ‘Family and Shipping Butcher’ building, established in 1864.
Arno Bay – Before we started travelling in SA we hadn’t heard of this peaceful part of the Spencer Gulf called Arno Bay, but started hearing about it from other travellers. Many said that this was a nice place to stay before leaving the Eyre Peninsula.
Tumby Bay – In the eastern Eyre Peninsula you will find another beautiful bay with sandy beaches and very blue water. We were blown away at how beautiful Tumby Bay is, even though the wind was incredible and really rocked the caravan around.
Coffin Bay – Across the road from the Caravan Park is the Oyster Walk which follows along the foreshore for around 15 kilometers .
Elliston – Elliston is situated on Waterloo Bay and has some of the most spectacular, scenic, rugged limestone cliffs we have seen so far along the Great Australian Bight. Make sure you take the clifftop drives.
Streaky Bay – Our second last stop on the West coast of the Eyre Peninsula has been at Streaky Bay where we stayed at the Streaky Bay Islands Caravan Park. All I can say is wow, and wow and wow.
Penong – Great overnight stay in Penong before heading across the Nullarbor. Very clean amenities, drive through sites, so you can stay hitched up, TV and Telstra reception, good hot showers.
