As we travelled along Australia’s Coral Coast we stopped in and checked out Shell Beach, Western Australia situated in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. As the name suggests it’s made up of shells. Yes billions of tiny white sea shells is said to be made from just one type of animal.
This unique beach stretches for 120 kms and is one of only a handful of beaches in the world where beach sand is replaced by shells. The snow-white shells looks awesome against the clear blue ocean and you can see why it’s popular to visitors from around the world. It is a photographer’s delight.
Next we stopped at Monkey Mia. This is famously known as the beach where dolphins visit each day and are fed by the rangers. The brochures advise that the best time to visit is from 7.45am to 12 noon as this is when the dolphins get fed. We didn’t see the dolphins being fed but had a great time watching them from the jetty swimming so close to shore. The entry fee for Monkey Mia is $9 each for concession card holders.
There’s not much else to do in Monkey Mia if you are just visiting for the day. We stood on the jetty and watched the dolphins, then went for a walk along the beach and checked out the restaurant and resort. At present a very large Caravan Park is being completed and we were told it will open in July. Of course you can go swimming or snorkelling and there are quite a few boat trips that you can take.
Another two bucket list items ticked.
We visited these areas while staying in Denham.
