About 10kms south of Coffs Harbour is the seaside village of Sawtell. The main street, First Avenue, is so different to other town’s main streets we have wandered along. With its wide medium strip and a variety of tables and chairs sheltered under large fig 🌳🌳trees the Avenue is lined with an array of boutique clothing stores, alfresco cafes, restaurants, and the odd quirky individual store. But take note the street is not one of the best to tow your caravan through. 😉
👉The village is nestled between two headlands that are linked together with a beautiful long sandy beach🏖. The Surf Club with its own alfresco cafe looks out over the beach and is a great spot to sit and enjoy a good coffee ☕️ or brunch/lunch, while taking in the sounds of the breaking surf. Both headlands are great 👀lookout areas for locals and visitors for the seasonal whale watching. Besides just enjoying the expansive views the adjacent beaches offer some good waves for surfboard 🏄♂️ riders.
👉 Creek which flows out of the Bongil Bongil National Park is the southern boundary of the town and has wide sandy shallows. It’s very popular with canoeists 🚣♀️ and stand up paddle boarders.
👉We stayed a few days at the Sawtell Beach, Big 4 Caravan Park which is hidden away on the bank of the Creek. The park is very popular all year and like so many coastal parks and can get booked out during school holidays and particularly the Christmas holidays.
👍Powered site 2A – At the time we stayed it was stay 4 nights and pay $10 for the 4th. So that worked out at $33 per night. Always check with the park to see what deals they have going. 🔌 + 🚰
👍2 Dump points 🚽
👍2 Amenity blocks – our amenity block was the older one but clean🚿
👍2 Camp kitchens – these looked great 🍽
👍Covered BBQ areas♨️
👍Free entry to swimming pool next to the caravan park.🏊♂️
👍Free Tennis court hire 🎾
👍Great TV and Phone reception 📱
🤷♀️Sorry no pets 🙊
👉The park is within walking 🚶♂️ distance to the main street and the many cafes and restaurants including the bowling club right next door. Sawtell is definitely worth a visit and a great stop if you want to explore more of the Coffs Coast.
