Port Macquarie is a major service centre and popular holiday destination along the Mid-North Coast in New South Wales. We have travelled through the town and stopped and shopped several times, but have never stayed. Graeme actually lived here for a few years back in the 1980’s. Obviously he noted big changes in and around town.😮
This time we stayed at the NRMA Breakwall Holiday Park which is very conveniently located beside the Hastings River entrance and Town Beach as well as being within very easy walking distance to the city centre.👍 I absolutely loved that we could walk everywhere and we found many special places. We sure did a lot of wonderful morning walks. We even found we were close enough to some special spots for a little therapy shopping.
Of course, everyone, and I mean it seems everyone, walks along the breakwall and it can get quite busy.🚶♀️🏃🚴♂️🐕 Actually, the foot traffic of joggers and walkers of all ages were there enjoying their special space at all hours of the day. There are some wonderful walking tracks with panoramic views around the headlands and beaches.
If your feeling energetic there is a 9 km coastal walking trail starting from Westport Park past the Town Green and breakwater, around Town Beach and Flagstaff Hill and along the coast to Tacking Point Lighthouse. During our stay we did most of it but in smaller sections, there is so much ‘beauty’ to take in.👀
Port Macquarie was abuzz with so many holiday makers and the cafes ☕️, restaurants 🍜and bars🍹 were all very busy. One place which is right on the boundary of the park is the Little Shack café overlooking the town green and Hastings River it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Thursday – Sunday.👍
We enjoyed dropping into the Visitors Information Centre in the Glasshouse as well as visiting the exhibition within the Art Gallery. Or you might enjoy taking the 🐨Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail in the CBD. We were also very lucky to spot a Mum Koala with her bub in one of the trees when we visited the historic cemetery.

All in all, I certainly enjoyed our stay 🙌🙌 and could have stayed a little longer but it’s currently school holidays and apparently fully booked up. Some of the sites are very squeezy but when you’re in and settled on your allocated site all is good. At one point it seemed like we had all Jayco Silverline’s around us. 😁
