Northampton is situated in the mid-western region of Western Australia and approximately 52 kms north of Geraldton. It is said that this is one of the oldest towns in WA and was established because of the mining of ore and copper. Apparently this is where the mining industry in WA started.
The town is charming with some beautiful heritage buildings. You won’t be able to miss the Church of Our Lady in Ara Coeli, built c.1936 right in the main street. Next to the church is the Convent of the Sacred Heart built in 1919. The convent today is a B & B and function centre. Word around town is that the building is haunted……I didn’t want to test the story to prove if it is either true or not.
I loved stepping back in time when we walked into the Northampton Family Store. It will really give you a sense of shopping in a by-gone era. If you’re a sewing enthusiast make sure you check out the museum at the back of the store. Just awesome and brought back many memories of my Mothers different sewing machines that she used as her tool of trade for many many years.
The town boasts a great parking area for caravanners and campers with a dump point and very clean public toilets, which is conveniently located right next door to IGA. It’s situated just behind the beautiful little Hampton Gardens. We loved that we could stop in such a convenient location, take a walk through town and do some grocery shopping.
Thanks Northampton very encouraging for the caravanners to come and enjoy your town.
