As we drove from Kumarina towards Newman there were several mine sites close to the highway. We had to stop along the way and take a pic as we crossed “The Tropic of Capricorn”.
The closer we got to Newman the surrounding countryside started to change. ⛰ In the distance we could see some reddish haze low in the sky from a couple of mines. This of course is the Pilbara region.👍
There is a great information parking area as you turn off the main highway towards the township of Newman. You won’t miss it as there is a huge dump truck on display.
We then headed towards the Newman Visitor Centre as this was where we based ourselves for the night. It is also a short walk to Woollies and IGA where we stocked up on some fresh produce.
We stayed overnight in the car park of the Newman Visitor Centre. $10 per night and you can stay up to 72 hours and unhook if you like. You must be totally self-contained.
They do supply:
👉Toilets – (for a $10 deposit you can take a key if you want to use the toilets when the centre is closed)
👉Drinking water 🚰
👉Dump point 🚽
👉Excellent Telstra and TV reception 📱📺
👉If you need to power up a laptop or tablet there is a wonderful area inside the visitor centre where you are more than welcome to charge up.🔌
👉Coffee at your doorstep. Yep there is a Muzz Buzz drive thru coffee shop right in the car park.☕️
👌The ladies in the visitor centre are extremely helpful and if you do take time to sit and relax while charging up phones etc., you can also enjoy the short video which tells you all about Newman. Also they have a little cafe that serves coffee and fresh scones.☕️🍪
Thanks Newman 👍
