After we left Ebor, you can read about in a previous post, we stopped for lunch at Moonbi Lookout which is also a free camp.
If you’re heading towards Tamworth down the Moonbi range you will need to move into the right hand lane to make the turn. We mention this as it’s on a steep downhill run so be careful. It’s a narrow 1km sealed road to the lookout.
On first impressions it looks OK. There is a large open gravel parking area with plenty of room for all types of rigs, big and small. There are toilets, but quite honestly……only if you have too. They are old and not the cleanest. The area also has a couple of barbecue sites and a covered picnic table area and a bin.
From the many burnout marks on the gravel it appears that this is a popular place for hoons.
On the up side it has a great lookout that does give some spectacular views over the area.
We thought it was a good place to stop for lunch, but we were happy to keep moving to our next destination.
