We love finding these absolute gems of places to stay. If you are heading to Mataranka and love camping away from the crowds then check this out.
Jalmurark camping area is situated in the Elsey National Park not far from the Mataranka thermal pool which is located adjacent to the Mataranka Homestead.
If you head down the road to the Mataranka thermal pool turn right into John Hauser drive about 3 kms before the Mataranka Homestead. From the turn off it’s an easy drive along a sealed road for about 12 kilometres and you will find yourself at the Jalmurark camping area. It is very well sign posted. We were so surprised to find this area and how spacious and fantastic it is.
The sites are flat and some are bitumen. I’m not sure how many sites are available but there are plenty to choose from. A lot of the sites have their own fire pits and a picnic table. You will be sure to find a space that suits your requirements.
There are two amenity blocks with toilets and there are solar hot showers. Also grass fenced areas with BBQ’s. The fee is $6.60 per person per night. No Telstra or TV reception in this area.
What a peaceful place to pull into for a few days.
You can take some of the walking trails to the Roper River or drive to some of the boat launching and river bank fishing areas. Please follow the advice that is clearly posted on the Crocodile warning signs.
