After having a wonderful time in Litchfield National Park we decided to head to Kakadu National Park. Apart from the odd croc spotting at Alligator River and bird watching at the wetlands beside the road we honestly did not find the drive to Jabiru exciting.
At this time of the year there are many controlled hazard reduction bushfires and you will see a lot of these fires burning throughout the Top End. We have found that the smell of smoke has been in the air with us since we entered the Northern Territory. During the drive to Jabiru there seemed to be a lot more f these controlled fires than other areas.
We stayed in Jabiru at the Kakadu Lodge where we paid $46 for a power and water site. There are 200 sites and you can choose your own. Oh and they don’t take bookings for sites. The sites are convenient for all sorts of rigs or campers and there are also many unpowered sites available. There are also some cabins available.
The park also has:
• Very good TV/Telstra reception
• Lagoon style pool (beautiful)
• Bar and bistro in the pool area
• 3 Amenity blocks which are clean
• Laundries
• BBQ areas
• Camp kitchens
There are a number of different tours that you can take while staying here and some of the Kakadu tours pick up and drop off at Kakadu Lodge so it’s a convenient place to stay.
• 4WD tours
• Birding tours
• Boat cruises
• Coach tours
• Cultural tours
• Scenic flights
• Walking tours
If you don’t want to be with an organised group you can always do a self-drive tour to several of the local features of the park and the sunsets and sunrises can be rather spectacular.
Well that’s enough for now.
