Geraldton – WA

It’s been some years since I last travelled through Geraldton and oh wow what a difference. This seaside town has now become quite trendy with its many cafes, shops, galleries and restaurants.

Geraldton

The harbourside area reminded me a lot of Fremantle. The foreshore has beautiful walk ways, BBQ areas, playgrounds and lovely shady grassed areas to enjoy, including some beautiful sheltered beaches that are family friendly.

FREE 24 Hour Stop Over

Along the foreshore, adjacent to the trailer boat launching area, is a FREE 24 hour stop for caravanners and campers. This is a really convienent location within walking distance of the town’s supermarkets and a great place to stay while enjoying all that the Geraldton foreshore has to offer. The location also offers a potable drinking water station, BBQ’s with a view, lovely grassed picnic areas, dump point, playgrounds and just a short walk to the modern and clean toilet block. It’s also within easy walking distance to many cafes and restaurants along the trendy shopping precinct of Marine Terrace.

24 Hour FREE campside

The magnificent HMAS Sydney II memorial centre is just across from the overnight rest stop. This memorial honours 645 Australian sailors who were lost off the WA coast during WWII. You can take a free tour each day at 10.30 am.

Geraldton was a great stop for us to stock up with regular grocery items from the various supermarkets like Woolworths, Coles and IGA. We took advantage of the opportunity to do some stocking up of the ‘essential’ provisions before heading further north as we have been warned the prices of most items will rise quite dramatically as we travel further.
