Did you know that Gayndah is the oldest town in Queensland and also known as the citrus capital?
Gayndah is a typical Queensland rural town situated on the Burnett River in the North Burnett area. As you drive into town you will see a couple of road side stalls selling some of the locally grown fresh oranges, mandarins, limes, lemons and more. Gayndah is also home to the ‘Big Orange’.
Before getting out and exploring we took a drive to Archer’s Lookout (accessed by driving up Pineapple Street and following the signs) to give us a better perspective of the town. The panoramic view over the town and surrounding countryside is great although you can only see glimpses if you’re lucky of the Burnett River. Pineapple Street is also home to a statue of a horse and jockey which celebrates the Gayndah Jockey Club which is said to be the first in Queensland.
There is an overnight RV stopover for 20 hrs at Zonhoven Park which has a dump point, public toilets and picnic tables and BBQ’s.
