We left Dunmarra Wayside Inn early as we had a long drive in front of us to Devils Marbels, approximately 487 kms. We like to give ourselves a bit of time as we travel so we can stop along the way and enjoy the scenery.
πDevils Marbels β Do yourself a favour and drive in off the highway to one of the designated stopping bays and take a walk around to have a look at these magnificent natural formations. Yes it was very very hot but well worth the stop to check them out. It also has a free camp but we did not get any pics of it.
πDevils Marbels Hotel β Wauchope – NT
After leaving the Devils Marbles we headed on down the highway to our overnight stop at the Devils Marbles Hotel. This place is pretty cool. Itβs a pub in the middle of nowhere. The first thing I noticed was the murals on the outside wall of this very painted pub and then a fence right around the camping compound that is out the back.
So off we went to book into the caravan park for a powered site for the night, it was still 40c outside at 4pm. Ok I may be a little wussy with such hot temps but when you have an arm in a cast and it gets itchy β air con is the best. Graeme quite likes the outside temp but you know what he also is enjoying being able to come into the air-con.
The girls at the reception/bar, who are nearly always backpackers from another country, were awesome and very happy to help us. We booked a powered site and headed off around the corner of the pub through the secured gate to find a site.
At the time we pulled up there was only one other van, so we had the pick of the bunch. Not many to choose from so it was quite easy. But donβt be fooled, by dusk the place was pretty full and every inch of the area is used to service any type of camper. For a place in the middle of the outback we thought it was well worth every cent.
We felt very happy and secure to be spending the night here plus we had an awesome sunset.
