We are currently back in Coffs Harbour as I (Dixie) need to fly to The Netherlands to be with my 89 year old Mum while she relocates into a small retirement home and then fly to Perth for my daughters wedding. Plan A was to do “The Big Lap”. Plan B is to continue the lap end of September early October.
Our Trip So Far
Our first trip saw us travelling 3,500 kilometres and this trip of ten weeks we travelled 7,500 kilometres. Total so far 11,000 kilometres. Not a lot when you take a look at the scope of this country. So many more kilometres to go on this great adventure.
We stayed in 15 different Caravan Parks and 3 free camps. Our stays at Caravan Parks were so that we had a base from where we could venture out to different areas without towing the caravan behind us.
Along the way we thoroughly enjoyed finding local butchers, green grocers, bakeries and fresh fish suppliers. By doing this we met some wonderful locals in different areas and it felt great supporting them. It was also great to enjoy a cold beer and watching the beautiful sunsets.
We passed thousands of travellers in caravans, but also those travelling with camp trailers, small motor homes, large fifth wheelers, motor cyclists, a few bicycle travellers and not to mention the many backpacker vans. One day I counted 155 caravanners and they were all going in the opposite direction to us.
It’s a great way to see our beautiful country and of course meet so many wonderful people and not just grey nomads. We met young families who are on the road with small children having a blast and many Europeans travelling in motor homes from Sydney to Cairns.
On the whole the weather was great, “Jeep and Jayco” worked hard and did not let us down and we both managed to still be talking to each other :).
We can’t wait to get back on the road again and see what else this big island of ours has in store for us and maybe this time Graeme can catch a fish or two.
Well that’s enough for now.
