Burrum Heads – QLD

After leaving Tin Can Bay, we travelled the approximately 120kms to Burrum Heads a totally relaxing small seaside village at the entrance of the Burrum River.

We arrived at the Burrum Heads Beachfront Tourist Park just before lunch and as instructed in an email we had received a day or so prior to our arrival we parked on the road and walked to reception to check in. You see this caravan park is divided by Burrum Street. So depending on where you have been allocated a site is why they ask you to park on the street and walk in. Oh and I will say now this park is not pet friendly  so for those not interested you may not want to read on.

Our site was on the river side of the dividing road but without the water views which didn’t worry us at all. We have learnt from previous stays in waterfront parks that there is often a compromise between water views and wind. As it turned out it was quite windy for most of the afternoons and we often saw several awnings being pulled in as the breeze increased, but we were sheltered and happy.

Setting up in this great little caravan park gave us an ‘ah hum’  reminder moment that things can sometimes be a little more demanding than how they look at first. Yep, after all the towing and parking we have done together during our travels this one brought us unstuck.

Let me tell you by the end of the day we were exhausted as it was a hot morning maneuvering the van between a power pole, light pole, water outlet and tree. And before you say anything, we were told the park was fully booked so we could not move to an alternative site. Thank you, thank you, thank you,  to the guys who were so patient in helping me guide Graeme in. After entertaining other park occupants with a few Houdini tricks we settled into our allocated spot, phew..!

Apart from the initial shock of parking onto our site we have absolutely loved being here. We met the most wonderful people and wish we could have stayed another week. But we had already booked ahead as things are getting busier and busier along this part of the Queensland coast. It is as though the off season has linked into the busy peak season.

We loved being able to walk  to the foreshore and check out what was happening. Lots of people fishing and boating and talking and walking. Burrum Heads has a lovely vibe to it. The beach at low tide is great to walk and one of the days we walked out to the second marker. Ok so you need to come here to see what I mean by the second marker. But beside that we walked the beaches each day which we thoroughly enjoyed. See pics.

The park also has a tinnie ramp which gives the keen boaties and anglers the advantage of being able to launch their tinnies without even having to hook up the car.

It’s also conveniently located to the town’s shops. Foodworks, Butcher, Baker, Fish and Chips, Hairdresser, Bait and Tackle, Post Office all just across the road from the park.

Powered slab site with water – approximately $30 per night for a 7 day stay at this time of the year.

Two amenity blocks

Disabled facilities

Laundry

3 BBQ areas

Camp kitchen

Dump point

TV reception – we were able to get Ch 2 and 10

Telstra phone and Wi-Fi excellent

We both loved this place and hope to come back again one day. Besides walking along the foreshore and beach there are some great swimming spots and loads of places for fishing.
