The Burnett Heads Lighthouse Holiday Park is a great place to base yourself if you’re visiting the Bundaberg region. It’s a 15-minute drive from the city centre of Bundaberg and about 10 minutes to Bargara and an even shorter drive to Mon Repos Turtle rookery.
It’s another one of those special places. Where the Burnett River meets the ocean. We are loving our daily walks. There is a selection of local pathways we can enjoy. Each of the walks take us into different parts of town, or river, or beach and ocean environments. On our first walk we headed off on the walk/cycle path towards the Bundaberg Port Marina where we found we can buy good fresh fish and on the way back we stopped and enjoyed a great coffee at the café.
Next day we walked from the caravan park to Oaks Beach. This is the main swimming beach and is patrolled at certain times of the year. If we were really energetic, we could walk all the way to Bargara. But we will wait until we are settled in our new home and have our bikes on hand. I can see that we may take to doing a lot of cycling using the formed pathway to Bargara and back, and definitely stopping for a coffee or maybe brunch before returning home.
Graeme has also noticed that the boat harbour ramp area has a public jetty which is a popular fishing place. So who knows he may even enjoy the catch of the day with a fish or two?
The caravan park is conveniently located on the waterfront and just a very short walk from the village’s CBD . In the village centre is the Lighthouse Hotel and bottle shop, an IGA, Pharmacist, Catherine’s bakery, a couple of seafood cafes, hairdresser, post office and Kelly’s on the Sea café. There’s also a clothing boutique that caught my eye.
The caravan park has:
- Power and water slab and grass sites
- Unpowered sites
- 4 Cabins
- Amenity block – they are old but very clean
- Laundry
- Dump point
- TV/Telstra reception
- Pet friendly
The managers of the park take pride in keeping the area looking great and are just a lovely couple who know how to do what they are doing and do it well. Thanks guys.
