Always wanted to say this when someone asked ‘Where are you’? Well my son asked just that question and I could answer …….we are out the ‘Back O’ Bourke’🤦♀️😁…..it’s said to be the soul of the outback.
The town is nothing to what I expected, and to be honest I had no idea what to expect. In the late 1880s Bourke was one of Australia’s most important inland trading ports for river traffic on the Darling River. The town is possibly smaller than I thought it would be but I am impressed by the wide streets and turn of the century buildings. We didn’t stop in town but we did drive through the main street and around a few of the side streets before heading out to the Back O’ Bourke Exhibition Centre which also happens to be the Visitor Information Centre.
Wow this place is very impressive and well worth a wander through. We were greeted by an incredibly helpful happy 😃lady who gave us all the information we required.
Before heading to north Bourke ‘Northy’ as the locals call it for our overnight stop at Kidmans Camp Country Resort we took a drive to the Darling River to get a photo 📷of the old centre lift bridge. The river is very low, but at least still has some water in it and some very old river gums.
👉Kidmans Camp is an absolutely lovely place to spend a night or two. It sure is an oasis in the outback and situated about 8km north of Bourke. Lovely green grass with lots of shady trees 🌳 and the most beautiful roses 🌹 everywhere.
It’s wonderful travelling through these places at the moment because it’s very quiet. When we arrived we were the only ones there 🙌 but were soon joined by a couple of other vans😄. If you’re not caravanning or camping then they have some gorgeous rustic cabins available.
👉There is a great walk 🚶♀️ down to the Darling River where you can also see the PV Jandra a modern replica of a paddleboat. At the moment she is out of the water and under maintenance but I believe in season you can cruise the river on her.
👉During the walk we meet some of the local horses🐎🐎. They were very friendly and happy for us to give them a pat.
👉Nice large grassy drive-thru sites with power and water 🔌🚰
👉Large amenity block🚻
👉Laundry👕
👉Two awesome swimming pools 🏊♀️🏊♂️
👉Camp kitchen 🍽
👉Dump point🚽
👉 Telstra reception great 📱– TV reception touch and go 📺
👉Not pet 🙉friendly – sorry 🙊
