BALRANALD – NSW

In a quiet little riverside town on the Murrumbidgee River who would have thought that we would meet up with relos who are also caravanning. In our case Graeme was able to catch up with his cousin Dianne and her husband Phillip. It was wonderful to finally meet them and spend some time together. I know we will meet up again somewhere💕.

Balranald is another RV friendly town. Just behind the Visitor Information Centre tucked away from prying eyes is a convenient overnight stop with access to toilets 🚻and showers 🚿. There is a 👉 donation box for those kind folk that want to do the right thing and give back to the community.

However, we stayed at the Balranald Caravan Park and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The park is situated on the bank of the Murrumbidgee River and has level green grassed sites. It’s a very popular park and we met some wonderful travelers.

Each afternoon you can enjoy the very noisy white cockatoos who love to settle in the many River Red Gums along the bank. Oh and I must not forget the resident Kookaburras.

It’s an easy level walk into town and along the way you can enjoy walking on the wobbly swing bridge which crosses over the ‘Bidgee’ river and if you feel inclined enjoy the 2.4 km walking trail.

After our walk we headed to the Discovery/Information Centre. Although small we spent quite a bit of time here listening to different audios, watching a couple of videos and enjoying the large touch screen with loads of Balranald history. Close by check out the Old Gaol, the relocated Wintong School (wow so small) and the Malcom Building Museum.

We also thoroughly enjoyed all the funky frog 🐸 sculptures dotted around town. The reason being is that the wetlands of this area are known to be the habitat of the endangered Southern Bell Frog. They’re quite cute and I am sure we missed some as we did not follow the ‘funky frog trail’. If you’re a frog lover make sure you check out all the frog paraphernalia available at the Visitor Information Centre.

It’s another one of those quaint towns where in the main street you will find a baker, butcher, post office, IGA and Foodworks, pub, pharmacy, hairdresser, hardware, clothing stores, newsagency and a couple of cafes. Sorry if we have left anyone out.

Thanks Balranald we enjoyed our stay.
