Even, though we have lived for many years, close to where we are in Ballina, we have never spent much time exploring the area to find some of its hidden gems. We are about to start exploring some of the Richmond River valley.
For those who are not familiar Ballina is a town in the Northern River Region of New South Wales. The town itself lies just inside the entrance of the Richmond River and hence the river in the background of yesterday’s pic after I had parked the caravan.
We have stopped overnight in Ballina a few times but never stayed for an extended period. Currently Discovery Parks are offering a deal ‘stay 7 pay 5’ and this works out to around $28 per night for a powered site. We have read and heard of the many places to explore around this region and we are thoroughly looking forward to taking you out with us and showing you what we find. This price was back in 2020 the visit in 2022 was $34 per night.
There is a great walking path around Shaws Bay which leads around the paths in front of the two Caravan Parks that look out over the water and then along part of the River’s breakwall and back. It takes around 45 minutes and very similar in length to our normal 5km walk we used to do in Coffs each morning.
