Excellent Free Camp
We decided to have an overnight “Free Camp” stay in Ardlethan as the reviews on Wiki Camps are great. But we didn’t expect it to be better than what the reviews suggested. The town has provided a beautiful spot near the old silos and railway station for self-contained caravanners. Not totally free though. If you want electricity, it is available. But is limited to a maximum of 4 outlets. For 12 hours it will set you back $2.00. How cool is that? We were very happy to contribute to this service.
When we arrived the 4 power points were already in use. That didn’t worry us too much, as we are a self-contained. As we jumped out of the Jeep and had a look around a man came up to us and asked if we would like power for the night. As it turned out he and his partner were about to move on and were happy to hand it over to us. Thanks Dolly and Kevin that was so nice of you.
Surrounding Areas
The overnight area is associated with a beaut little public park that has several lovely old Pepper Trees and very clean toilets. Make sure you take a walk along the main street and check out Stewart Park that has several old Pepper trees plus beautiful white Cedar trees.
The London Hotel is situated just across the railway crossing where they serve wonderful cold beer and good pub meals too. The Bowling Club is also next to the park and here too you can have a drink or meal.
Across the road from the park is Ariah 62 a cute café that is open most days till 3 p.m. If you are in need of some groceries there is a Foodworks Supermarket. There is also has a Hairdresser, Op-Shop, Newsagent which sells all sorts of goodies and a few other stores. Unfortunately being Melbourne Cup Day many of the stores were closed. Ha ha ha …..love the old Aussie tradition….
Kelpie Dog
Did you know Ardelthan is the home of the “Kelpie”? You will find two statues in the parks in honour of the Kelpie. 🐕
Thank you Coolamon Shire and the Ardlethan town for welcoming us and we have been more than happy to contribute to your beautiful town. 🛒🍻🍛
