We travelled approximately 122 kms north of Bundaberg to the town of Agnes Water, which is situated at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. This town has a really great holiday vibe and as we found is a 🏄♀️“surfer’s paradise”🏄. But you sure don’t have to be a surfer to enjoy the pristine beaches of this special part of the coast.
The town’s main beach is patrolled at certain times of the year. The golden sands of the beach stretch about 6km to the town of 1770. It’s a great beach for walking and beach combing where it is easy to lose a few hours. Who knows you may find that special something to take home as a keepsake of being in such a wonderful place.
There’s quite a bit to do and see around this region especially when you take in the town of 1770 a short 7km drive from Agnes Water. Check out the monument which overlooks Bustard Bay where on the 24th of May, 1770 Lieutenant James Cook along with Joseph Banks and his assistant Daniel Solander came ashore. Hence the name of the Town of 1770. The town has a great foreshore walk plus a few inviting looking cafes that overlook the marina, boat ramp and the moorings of Round Hill Creek.
👉The museum in Agnes Water has everything you need to know about Cook’s landing, so check it out. Fee of $3 per adult for admission.
Now back to Agnes Water – Besides surfing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding or just enjoying the beach there are some fabulous nature bush walks to do. Agnes Water has all the shopping that you need when you are on holidays plus plenty of cafes, restaurants and two taverns.
👉We are told our site at the Agnes Water Holiday Park is one of the larger spaces but it is still ‘tight’. The best thing is we are close to the beach and our view from the van to the beach is so good we can catch glimpses of the surfers riding the waves. All this while we enjoy brekky or afternoon drinks.
👉The park is situated right by the beach and as well as powered and unpowered sites there are Tree Top Safari Tents and luxury Beachfront Bungalows.
👉It’s within walking distance to town’s 🚶♀️ shops, cafes and restaurants. Not to mention a few boutiques 😁👍for men too of course, bait and tackle shop, camping store, butcher, baker and 2 supermarkets, Oh and a post office, and hairdresser. And did I mention the medical centre. It really has everything you need and more.
👉You can also walk up the rise to the Museum and Visitors Information Centre. 👍
👉Holidays Café☕️ – is an onsite café where you get your regular morning caffeine hit or enjoy a delicious brunch.
🔌Power and water – $45 per night. A little on the expensive side compared to our usual caravan parks, but it obviously doesn’t worry anyone as the place is packed to the rafters. Sites are a little cramped in places so maybe take a walk to check out your site before driving in.
